Two Love Songs

As I’m travelling right now, I’ve had little time to read, but a lot of time to listen to my media player. Here are a couple songs that randomly played close to each other yesterday. I thought they made a good mix. Two different takes on love, both brilliant in the “we’re all hopeless” kind of way. You know it's time / that we grow old and do some shit.

John, this will blow your mind. Its me,Kathy Travis.I am aware of your relationship with Ryan and I am so happy for both of you and very supportive. He is quite the young man.I know he respects your work and your input on his as he is very gifted in many different genres.Having contact with you has meant alot to him.I respect that.Also.both he and I respect you and your familys privacy just, dont deny yourself this opportunity to really get to know him.I can promise he will not dissapoint.Hes an extraordinary INDIVIDUAL!I know you have missed out on alot but,if you would like some pictures or hear some stories ,that I can supply.I dont intend on infringing in your life.(I am happily married to,of course,an artist myself ,who happens to be succesfull in his own right.)Ryan is quite the young man.His philanthropic works alone are boast worthy. His commitment to his faith is unshakeable and his creativity spills inti the many genres of the arts. You would be proud to know him and I am glad that you are getting that chance.I believe it is good for both of you. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.God bless and be well.

Kathy,

It's nice to hear from you, and, I think this comment from you here, on this post, takes the all-time ironic response award.

I'm on facebook, if you are, or I can be contacted here:

Looking forward. It's good to hear you're doing well.

Both really good songs. My favourite "we're all hopeless at love" song this year is Phosphorescent's wonderful "The Mermaid Parade":

"Now our hearts were on fire only two weeks ago
And our bodies were like live wires down on the beach in Mexico,
But I came back to this city and you stayed home in LA,... See More
And then our two years of marriage
In two short weeks somehow just slipped away.

And I know all about your new man -
Your new older, old man - and I heard that he’s married,
Ahm you be careful Amanda,
And yeah I found a new friend too,
And yeah she’s pretty and small,
But goddamn it, Amanda, oh goddamn it all."

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant...

Guy,

YES! The new Phosphorescent is amazing. I actually found it through facebook... and am now a huge fan. And as lyrics go, those are among the best. But this is my current favorite Phosphorescent lyric on love, from "Cocaine Lights":

And in the hallway, in a slip
She says "hey, don’t you like my newest trick"
And I say "yeah that’s a pretty good trick.
Would you show me again?"
